Auto parts sharing to lessen climate impact

The varieties of automobiles of all sizes and shapes are overwhelming. On the positive, nice to have, side they present the consumer with as wide a choice as possible. In a democratised and free society this is good.

Automobiles, however, have a huge negative impact on the environment, and their proliferation has exacerbated this. I am not here referring to their use of fossil fuels on the road, but referring to their climate impact in manufacture.

Efforts to lessen this impact have focused on material recycling, etc. but I wonder if another possibility could be sharing auto parts.

As much as choice is good, but it is largely a nice to have. Surely in the interest of lessening our climate impact we should consider subjugating this? Surely many hidden parts and some largely aesthetically inconsequential parts such as wiper blades, etc. can be shared across vehicles to reduce the use of materials and the energy needed by various auto parts manufacturers?

A reduction in climate impact requires a new thinking and attitude. In time, perhaps a caring populace should be prepared to have less and less choice in order to reduce our impact on the environment.
